I moved to Gdańsk at the beginning of October. I know that this is probably one of those breakthrough moments in my life - because I know it was the time when I made the decision to move out of the house permanently. I love my hometown - and I don't know where my life will take me - but I know that this period of living in my family home is over. Life in Poland in general seems to me to be what I would like to connect with the future - at least for a while - I feel at home here and the character of the Slavs is close to me and I feel good here. Of course, I could not and would not like to close myself only to Poland and Polishness, I love discovering other cultures and traditions - that's why I do not rule out moving for a while to a completely different place in the future. After all, when I think about my future - I associate it mainly with being in Poland. But that's later - now I still have a discovery season. Anyway, it's hard to plan something - after all, I can't really be sure what will happen tomorrow.
I think that I will have very good memories of my stay in Poland. I met interesting people and very good friend The city of Gdansk . I also have a strong impression of living in a theater set, this strange feeling is the strongest in Gdansk but I also noticed it in other Polish cities like Lublin. itself is very particular, it seems to be in permanent reconstruction: indeed, everywhere I go I see places in renovation, the pavement is rebuilt or surfaces are being repainted. This country being further east and north compared to France, it is definitely cooler. After almost nine months spent here, I can easily notice how differently I and the natives feel the temperature. In France, we sometimes say that "le fond de l’air est frais" (the back of the air is cold) and I could finally understand what that means. It is quite frequent that I have to dress in one or more sweaters and pass women in skirts and t-shirts outside. It is always something I have difficulty to get accustomed to. When I arrived here, I can't explain why, but I deeply believed that Polish people were very comfortable in English. I was surprised to find out that this was not the case. I have the impression that our nations share this relationship with English. It is often said that the linguistic proficiency in France is very poor and that we would be too proud to speak another language. In reality I think that, like the Polish, we are rather shy. I like this country very much and I plan to extend my stay and work there a little more.
This is not my first time in Gdansk, as in Poland itself. For my Erasmus exchange, I chose Gdansk – because I remembered how beautiful it is. In addition, it is very close to the sea – and for a Belarusian it is a luxury. I really like Poland aesthetically: from the history of the poster and design, to the reconstruction of houses and the charm of suburban areas. The most powerful desire that arises when you go out on the street is to sit somewhere on a park bench or on the parapet near the embankment and paint the beauty around you. I am very lucky to live in a beautiful modern dormitory in the center of the old town – the dormitories here are much better than in Belarus or Lithuania. Living in the heart of the old European city has been a long-standing dream of mine since my life in Vilnius, but the cost of housing has always stopped me. And so, my dream came back to me in this form. Poland is a wonderful country, with stunning nature, beautiful cities; there is a sea and mountains - everything you need for happiness. I am very happy that I spent four months of my life here, and I think that I will come and travel in the future – because so many discoveries still lie ahead. The only thing that upsets me a little is the unstable weather. Spring warmth comes to Belarus much earlier – in April. And here, in Gdansk, I spent three months out of four in a warm coat. But I try to use the remaining month here to the maximum – I walk around the city a lot and enjoy the sun. I'm happy to be here.
